Design Concept: As semi-detached houses often portraits a combined residential unit forming a huge mass which often hardens the streetscape, the façade of this house was treated to refine or even renew the perception about what a semi-detached house is.
Exterior Aesthetics: The façade is a combination of curtain wall and groove lines which does not fit a certain niche but will appear to a timeless piece. We often take for granted the use of glass but once it is properly utilized, as the 2-level curtain wall in front of the house, it has the power to instil awe and spark imagination. It projects an ingrained beauty and elegance. Complementing the front glass façade are carefully placed groove lines. This combination will not be fated to be just a trend, but it will always carry the meaning of modernity.
Interior Aesthetics & Finishes: Thin metal ledges and c-channels are also used to give an extra kick of modern accent. The exterior colours are properly selected to create contrast which also blend well as a whole. At first storey level, a driveway which leads all the way to the rear of the house has been introduced. It can cater for 4-5 standard sized vehicles. It also creates future possibilities for expansion, or as its own, gives a feeling of being drawn-in into the house. It has a lobby which also acts as a foyer to the living room above. Going to the 2nd storey, an open-concept space which consist of the living room, dining and wet kitchen faces a view of a spacious open terrace through the full-width glass sliding doors. This eliminates the lack of view of a standard living room in the 1st storey which usually is connected to the car porch and the tight side setback. Part of the living and dining are double-volume which maximizes the open-concept feature. The rooms in the mezzanine floor and 3rd storey are place at the rear and front of the house which are provided with abundant natural lighting and ventilation.
Design Considerations for Unit Layouts: The façade is a combination of curtain wall and groove lines which does not fit a certain niche but will appear to a timeless piece.
Ecological & Environmental Values: The semi-detached houses are designed to allow the internal spaces to be naturally ventilated from all sides. This allows for cross-ventilation to keep the spaces within the house cool. The walls are constructed with Autoclaved Aerated Lightweight Concrete (ALC) Panels which provides excellent thermal insulation, with a k-value of 9-times less than concrete, helps retain coolness indoors, saving on energy costs. The air conditioners – Therm-Aire comes with proprietary cooling system applying solar thermal technology and incorporating a thermal collector with evacuated tubes to harness renewable solar and ambient heat throughout the entire day. Therm-Aire is the world’s first solar thermal hybrid air conditioning system, reducing enery consumption by up to 55%, with average coefficient of performance (CoP) of above 5. Therm-Aire is recognised locally and worldwide. It is a Certified Green Product by Singapore Green Building Council and has obtained Building and Construction Authority (BCA) – Maximum Green Mark Points. It has also received the Institute of Engineers Singapore Engineering Awards (IES) 2019 and ASEAN Federation of Engineers Organisation (AFEO) Outstanding Engineering Award 2019. Low E Glasses are used for the skylight to help reduce the transmission of heat into the house and thus reduce energy cost. It reduces destructive UV Rays and yet allows natural lightings into the house.
Environmental Friendliness: The features seek to reduce the transmission of heat into the house and by keeping the house naturally ventilated thus lowering the consumption of energy. The use of Therm-Aire air conditioners also lowers the use of electricity to power the air-conditioners by using solar tubes instead. This in turn helps to reduce the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere, creating a greener and healthier environment for all.
