Design Excellence

Design Concept: Inspired by the historical context of “Serangoon” which is thought to be derived from the ranggong bird, a species of stork which abounded in the riverine swamps around Serangoon River or the Rangoon River, the development aims to capture the sense of nostalgia and lush shades of forest that is present on the existing site.

Exterior Aesthetics: The architectural language is kept to pure forms, bridging between the landscape and the urban. The box and frame design language takes a humbler approach to complement the landscape, allowing the development to grow into a living forest. The riparian nature of the development immediately stands out among the urban neighbourhood, recreating the experience of a sanctuary landscape in the heart of the Serangoon estate.

The architectural language plays on the tectonics of a simple twisting of the conventional box. This maximizes opportunities for views by steering units towards the low-rise estates surrounding the site. The twisting nature of the development also creates experiential opportunities on the ground level as one move along the paths, heightening the anticipation along a journey of discovery through the forest.

Interior Aesthetics & Finishes: Inspired by the history of the area, and how it used to be a natural place where all the elements were balanced together, the interior wants to reflect this feeling of serenity and peaceful retreat with a resort feeling. With nature as inspiration, and imagining a path through the woods, the interior was inspired by the trees, their rhythm, modularity and texture and walking out of the woods to experience the freshness of the valley, movement and lightness.
