Landscape Excellence
Landscape Aesthetic Values: CanningHill Piers is a key connection between Fort Canning and the Singapore River, and the landscape design is inspired by the act of ascending a hill- a hill that contains both the wonders of the green and the blue. This is a journey of discoveries, where one uncovers the many different worlds, nested within one another- the landscape on the different levels mirrors the changes in biomes as we ascend the towers, from the riverine landscape along the river to the heritage garden showcasing the cultural and natural legacies, to CanningHill Garden at level 3, and then CanningHill Club- an exclusive floor with a multitude of facilities that provides moments of introspection and also an exhilarating view of both the city’s skyline and the bay.
Social & Cultural Values: In the public realm, distinctive island planters with signature trees form visual anchors within the space, complemented by the drooping plants. CanningHill Club on Level 24 is a place of tranquillity that is shared by all. There are expansive vistas provided at this level, but also smaller pockets of lounges for privacy. The 3 distinctive zones here are City Sanctuary, Sky Oasis and Hill Resort. At level 45, the exterior spaces such as the Sky Garden and Sky Hammocks invite residents to enjoy these areas as their personal backyard.
Liveability & Wellness: At level 3, two main fitness zones are housed within this verdant green, which integrates active and fitness areas for both kids and adults. There is even a bouldering wall catered for the more adventurous. The play elements use natural materials such as timber, to blend into the garden setting. A jogging track wraps around the adventure zones.
Green Plot Ratio: 3.5
Landscape Replacement Area (LRA): 40%
Biodiversity and Habitat Creation: We have more than 50% native species.
Design Excellence
Design Concept:
Drawing inspiration from the site’s history and lush surroundings to create a strong visual connection between Fort Canning Hill and the Singapore River, CanningHill Piers is defined by an open connectivity to the neighborhood.
“CanningHill Piers has been designed by placing community first, with a porous and multilayered public realm at its heart that restores the connection between historic Fort Canning Hill and the Singapore River – and creates a cascading green oasis in the birthplace of modern Singapore” (quote from Brian Yang, BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group Partner and Lead Design Architect ).
Exterior Aesthetics:
The new CanningHill Piers development, comprised of four towers, a podium, and a sky-bridge, connects the historic Fort Canning Hill with the nearby Singapore River. The exterior lattice façade is artistically draped in a geometric framework that unifies the various components of the buildings, creating a sculptural form that responds to the functional requirements of the development. One of the two residential towers, stretching 180 meters into the sky, will become the tallest residential tower along the Singapore River.
The open podium at levels one, two, and three will accommodate a multi-layered public realm; retail businesses surround the heart of the building in a continuous loop, with floor-to-sky air wells for events. The podium also facilitates shaded connectivity between the city areas as a recreational urban space; as with many building developments in Singapore, the project prioritizes greenery, with the lush tropical greenery creating an atmosphere of meditative contemplation, even in the bustling urban context of central Singapore. Cascading green contours throughout the levels of the podium will create a green oasis and stitch the greenery experience from the Hill to the River.
Interior Aesthetics & Finishes: Natural material & neutral color palette are the key components of the usage of the interior space, this gives the inhabitants a soft, calming effect & smoothly blends into the background and creates a sensation of restfulness.
Having more flexible spaces has become more important, with more loose movable furniture & fewer built-in pieces, visually appealing and inviting space, therefore, enabling these spaces to function as workspaces that positively influence and foster creativity, collaboration, and productivity.
Detailings for residential units such as kitchen cabinet system with concealed drawers with pull-out and extendable table as added worktop or table, thus maximize kitchen counter space. Cabinet compartments are carefully considered for usage such as accessories, iron & shoe storage are also introduced to satisfy the functional aspect of an efficient modern living experience.
Facilities: Level 24 offers luxury amenities for residents, such as rooftop pools and outdoor jacuzzies, while opening unparalleled views of the city. The multiple levels of amenities and spaces offer a variety of fitness and leisure activities. Level three will provide an adventure-based nature experience with a jogging track, fitness areas, and a playground. At level 45, the sky club lets you entertain in style in an unforgettable setting high above the city. Conceived as your private club in the sky, the clubhouse gives you the pick of two well-appointed lounges.
Maintainability: Wind-driven rain analysis was carried out early during the design stage to ensure the design and form can reduce wind-driven rain conditions and minimize maintenance issues. Similarly, overhangs are introduced as well. In addition, facade materials are selected with consideration for easy maintenance such as the use of aluminium cladding/ceiling. Openable panels are provided within the façade for the maintenance or replacement of all major MEP equipment. All façades are also accessible for cleaning and maintenance through various permanent access systems, including one roof-mounted BMU with telescopic boom per tower.
Design Considerations for Unit Layouts: The spatial layout of the residential units works around the iconic architectural form while ensuring a highly efficient and hardworking layout is crafted. To cater for diverse lifestyles, the design offered differing unit types consisting of more than 30 permutations among the 696 residential units. Likewise, the layout is planned generously with large windows, daylighting and ventilation to enhance the living wellness of a home – a key aspect that is attracting more awareness during the pandemic period.
Sustainability Excellence
Ecological & Environmental Values: – Demolition of the pre-existing building was carried out in sequence to minimise waste, recycling all recyclable Concrete and Steel salvaged on site.
– The design team has adopted comprehensive passive and active design strategies right from the outset of the design process. Firstly, to maximise comfortable naturally ventilated podium spaces, the development is orientated to capitalise on the open North-East site context to bring in the prevailing winds. Secondly, to reduce solar heat gain into internal AC areas, vertical and horizontal shading are integrated into the grid drape facade structure, with high-performing glazing to achieve superior overall building envelope thermal performance. Thirdly, the landscape and water features are integrated coherently into the multi-layered development for multiple purposes – to attenuate stormwater and reduce flood risk, enable responsible resources by harvesting rainwater to reuse on-site, while enhancing outdoor human comfort by mitigating the Urban heat island effect. Finally, highly efficient lighting, building controls and centralised ACMV systems are incorporated to deliver a comfortable indoor environment.
Environmental Friendliness: – Embodied carbon emission reduction by diverting demolition waste away from landfills, and recycled Concrete and Steel contributes to other projects outside of life cycle boundary.
– Highly efficient building energy systems reduce operational carbon emissions. At least 25% better than the industry baseline (BCA GreenMark 2015)
– Rainwater harvesting reduces water used for landscape irrigation significantly while minimising stormwater runoff from the site.
Green Mark Score: – Green Mark Goldplus ratings for both Residential and Non-residential components – Award Green Mark Goldplus RB:2016 – 65.7points – On track to achieve Green Mark Goldplus NRB:2015 – 69.3 points

Showflat Excellence
Space Utilisation:
Chalked Private Limited – 1-Brm + Study showflat
To better utilise the space within the apartment, we removed the wall separating the living and the bedroom to create a full-height feature that allows multi-functional use. From a swivel TV which can be utilised in both areas, to additional storage and display niches.
Asylum – 3-Brm Premium showflat
Adding a versatile pull-out counter at the Balcony which can be flipped up when in use and flipped down to store, as a space-saving design.
2nd Edition (2-Brm + Study & 4-Brm Premium showflats)
For the 2-Brm + Study unit, spaces are created to be multi-functional, combining work, play, and rest. The dining area is doubled as a workspace to supplement working-from-home lifestyles. A home gym is also incorporated on the balcony.
Practicality:
Chalked Private Limited – 1-Brm + Study showflat
The concept has always been to ensure a smooth flow within a compact unit type. We ensured the selected pieces were not bulky for the living area; as well as keeping the dining area user-friendly with a round table. Designing the side tables for the master bedroom to be able to swivel allows us to bring in the spaciousness between the wardrobe to the bed; as well as permitting a great use of the table for the owner’s daily necessities. Lastly, the wall feature in an acrylic box within the study area was a showcase for the showflat and it also permits the owner to realise how they may use the space for a full-height storage cabinet should the need arise.
Asylum – 3-Brm Premium showflat
With the increase in flexible work arrangement situations, we converted one of the bedrooms into a gym/study room so it’s multi-functional.
2nd Edition (2-Brm + Study & 4-Brm Premium showflats)
To create a more organic space, we have selected custom furniture with curved lines that free up plenty of walking space around the rooms. Most surfaces are designed to be floating fixtures or have spaces underneath for tucking additional furniture (e.g. chairs) in when not in use.
Creativity:
Chalked Private Limited – 1-Brm + Study showflat
We loved what we achieved using stainless steel for the wall finish at the entrance. Another innovative feature was the specially customised 3-dimensional artwork above the sofa which really gave life to the unit.
Asylum – 3-Brm Premium showflat
Targeted at “The Nesters” with extra space for a young family, this unit can also function as a home office. A couple in the creative industry, with a child. The palette features light-hued stone and wood finishes with turquoise and pastel pink tones.
2nd Edition (2-Brm + Study & 4-Brm Premium showflats)
Liberal usage of patterns and textures on walls to create a different visual experience. 3D pop-up panels and artwork are used in both the 2-Brm + Study common area and 4-Brm Premium dining and master. A book-matched marble wall is also used as a highlight in the 4-Brm Premium living.
Overall Uniqueness:
Chalked Private Limited –1-Brm + Study showflat
We had linked the concept to the historical fact that CanningHill Piers is located next to Fort Canning Park which has an actual excavation site! With that in mind, we had pursued the use of the study area to turn it into an archaeologist’s private domain. The feature along the wall is to showcase his wonderful discoveries from his work around the world over the years.
Asylum – 3-Brm Premium showflat
Smart usage of space would include the pull-out counter on the balcony, ample storage space in the kitchen, and connecting the kitchen /living space with a large glass enclosure. The helper’s room features a murphy bed again to demonstrate space-saving solutions to ensure the space is functional yet elegant in design.
2nd Edition (2-Brm + Study & 4-Brm Premium showflats)
Spaces are tailored to suit lifestyles in the current climate of incorporating work, play, and exercise into living spaces. The result is highly functional designs that reflect the persons living within.
